Mock Exercise on Earthquake and Landslide Conducted at Khonsa successfully

KHONSA, September 18, 2025: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tirap, in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home affairs, Government of India, New Delhi under the guidance and supervision of retired Major Gen Sudhir Bahl (Retd) conducted a district-level emergency response mock drill on earthquake and landslide scenarios at multiple locations in Khonsa on Thursday. The venues included the General Hospital, Mini Secretariat (DC’s Office), Khonsa Bazaar, Bo-Peep School, Highway Bridge and Nehru Stadium.
The mock drill witnessed the participation of SDRF teams, Tirap Police, 36 Bn CRPF, 44 Assam Rifles, Fire Services personnel, the Medical Department, community volunteers, NGOs, school children, and teachers. The exercise aimed to test the readiness of schools, stakeholders, employees, and technical staff to effectively respond to emergency situations.
In the run-up to the drill, a series of preparatory meetings were held at the DC’s office, Khonsa. Table-top exercises were conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mini Secretariat conference hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shri Techu Aran.
District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Smt. Emily Tingkhatra also stressed the importance of updating resource inventories and maintaining round-the-clock preparedness, reminding that disasters often strike without warning.
During the mock exercise, DC Techu Aran closely monitored the second-to-second response, reviewed actions taken by the DDMO, SDRF, and other stakeholders, and appreciated the collective efforts of all participants. He commended the team spirit shown by the SDRF, police, security forces, fire services, medical teams, volunteers, NGOs, and schools.
Incident Commander Shri N. L. Naam, Assistant Commissioner, noted that proper preparations are essential to save lives during disasters and underlined the importance of effectively utilizing existing resources.
