Khonsa 8th August, 2024 : In a significant step towards combating drug abuse in the region, the District Administration of Tirap has announced the launch of Narcotics Anonymous meetings, to be held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month starting from September 2024. This initiative was decided upon during a meeting on drug abuse chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Tirap Ms Ira Singhal, IAS last month.
The Narcotics Anonymous meetings are designed to serve as support groups for individuals recovering from drug addiction, helping them reintegrate into society and providing crucial support to prevent relapses and overcome temptations. These meetings will be an integral part of the district’s ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term recovery of those battling addiction.
The Medical Department of Tirap will spearhead this initiative under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with strong support from the district’s Police and other departments. The NGO partner, Care Me Home, will play a vital role in spreading awareness about the meetings and coordinating their organization.
Recovered addicts are encouraged to attend these meetings regularly and take on mentorship roles to support those currently facing challenges in their recovery journey. Additionally, doctors and psychologists involved in the meetings will monitor participants’ progress and provide necessary guidance and counseling.
This initiative reflects the District Administration’s commitment to creating a safer, healthier community by addressing the issue of drug abuse head-on and supporting those in recovery.
